Memorial Day Weekend May 31, 2005

Filed under: Family — Shannon @ 8:36 pm

What a great weekend we had! The kids were in San Diego with my mom and dad since Friday, so Jon and I were able to have some good times together. We still had Rachel but she is so quiet we felt like we were alone!
Friday night we went to Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucuamonga and ate dinner at California Pizza Kitchen and walked around after. Saturday afternoon, I attended a wedding and I was her personal assistant that day. Have any of you ever tried to sweep up rose petals? I do not recommend it. Sunday, we had a barbeque with some friends and played Texas hold’em. I had never played – just watched it on celebrity poker. It was fun. On Monday, we saw the early show of Episode 3 with some friends and went to lunch at SuperMex. (yum!) We returned home to go to a barbeque at our neighbors house and go in the pool. On Tuesday, Jon worked and I was given the clean bill of health from the ob to go back to my extra-curricular activities (yeah!) and the kids came home! Whew! No wonder I want to go to bed at 8:30!
So often in the role of parenthood, you forget who you once were because your needs often come last. It was fun letting lose with friends and starting to read again.

Going back to work May 22, 2005

I have had the pleasure of being off work since the middle of January because of my preterm labor ordeal. I have to go back June 5th or I will lose my seniority and have to get hired back. I am totally not looking forward to it because it has been so nice hanging out with our family and friends. I was just beginning to get used to having the weekends off. It was nice knowing you all and I hope to see you soon! Good luck to Jon as he learns how to juggle 3 children!

That article in the newspaper

The other morning I was reading about this couple that were expecting twins that were 20 weeks gestation that were having problems and were not expected to make it. This was after them losing their other 2 children in a freak accident when a drunk driver ran them over. This got me thinking about having children and God’s plan. Do you think some people are just not meant to have children in God’s plan?

Crazy song origins

Filed under: Music — Shannon @ 7:05 am

I was listening to 95.5 the other day and heard Uncle Joe Benson talking about the Rolling Stones and Jumping Jack Flash. Apparently, that song came from the lead singer(who is he again?) that had this gardener that was on some kind of medication that made him a little jumpy. That made me think of what other kinds of songs had crazy beginnings. Any favorites?

All that and a box of Ritz

Filed under: Family — Shannon @ 7:01 am

As a mother of three small kids, I have pretty much given up stuffing my children’s head mind stimulating data every waking hour. Don’t call social services just yet, mind you, I still work with the kids, I just don’t devote as much time to it now as I did in the beginning when Seth was a baby.
As most of you know, we have quite a busy life and Rachel is in her carseat most of the time going from here to there. On Thursday, she had a chance to stretch out while at a neighbor’s pool. These are our neighbor’s that just recently had a baby also, 3 weeks ahead of ours. This couple has already had two other kids, 7 and 10. So they are all stocked up on all the latest baby gear since they had already given away all there old stuff. While Rachel was stretching out on their patio table, (hey, she wasn’t going to go any where!) their baby was being a little fussy. Robin pulled out her Baby Einstein puppet and began to do a little puppet dance for her baby. I looked over at Rachel and began to get a little mommy guilt that I wasn’t doing anything for her until I noticed that she was staring intently on the box of Ritz crackers that we had brought over for a snack. That was when I had the brilliant thought, “Hey, it has red. That should stimulate her brain, right?”
It was then I figured out the difference between having 3 small children versus having a new baby. You go Robin for all your hard work. Me, I am happy with just turning the Ritz box around to a different angle – hopefully she will turn out just fine.

The difference between 2 kids and 3 kids May 15, 2005

If someone were to ask me the difference between having two kids and three kids, I would say that so far I am spending more time in the bathroom than at any event. Both the kids decide that they have to go at different times, despite much asking. As soon as I think I am done, the baby has a big blowout and we need to go back to our favorite bathroom.

Sending Seth to therapy

Filed under: Family — Shannon @ 9:02 pm

As most of you know, I am breastfeeding my newborn, being that it is cheaper than the other option. However, I might want to reconsider the cost alternative because Seth will be needing some serious therapy. This was never more prevalent than the other day than when Seth was being a superhero with his dad and his superhero power was that he could shoot juice out of his nipples. Although a handy superhero power when your playing outside on a hot day, I don’t know how popular it will be on the playground.
