That article in the newspaper May 22, 2005

Filed under: Family — Shannon @ 7:10 am

The other morning I was reading about this couple that were expecting twins that were 20 weeks gestation that were having problems and were not expected to make it. This was after them losing their other 2 children in a freak accident when a drunk driver ran them over. This got me thinking about having children and God’s plan. Do you think some people are just not meant to have children in God’s plan?

Unfortunately, yes. I have faith that God’s plan is much greater than whether we have children or not. I don’t deny the grace and beauty of children — I just think that our souls and our fate are determined by a Plan much greater than the specifics of procreation. No, I don’t have scripture to quote, but I do feel as if God sends us here to experience his Love, and that how we do that is a unique experience for everyone.

Yes; I think some people who would be great parents are destined never to have children, and vice versa. Perhaps the crappy parents are given kids in order to provide a cautionary example to mediocre parents, who might either become crappy parents or rise to greatness, depending on external impetus.

I think those are excellent points. I am still not sure how I feel about it. Sometimes when I hear of the absurd things parents do to their kids, I often wonder. All I know is that every day I thank the Lord for three healthy kids.
